NEW "Making Gel Candles - The Basics"
section.
Introduction
Thank you for your purchase
of our Fruit Preserve Gel Candle Kit. We hope that making these candles will
be as enjoyable for you to make, as they are to burn.
Things you will need to get started.
1. Glass measuring cup (32 oz works best)
2. Metal skewer For stirring and placing embeds
3. Candy thermometer
4. Smaller glass measuring cup for small amounts of gel
Unpacking your kit
The first thing to do is to unpack your kit and lay everything out in
front of you to familiarize yourself with the contents. You will find a
container with the premade gel inside, gelwicks (enough for the candles in
your kit 1 per candle), a warning label for each candle, sticky tabs for each
wick included in the kit, a bag of each embed of your choice, dye pieces,
scents, and the jar(s) for each candle.
Step One
The first thing to do is to pre heat your oven to 220 degrees
Fahrenheit.
The next thing you will want to do is to open the container containing
the premade gel and emptying its contents into the glass measuring cup
and placing it into the preheated oven.
The gel must be heated until reaching 200 degrees and completely liquefied.
While the gel is heating, it’s the perfect time to wash your jars.
The next step
To be assured of the desired candle that you want, one of the most
important things you can do is to clean and definitely dry the jars in the kit
in soapy, warm water. Make sure that the jars are completely dry. The
smallest amount of water will at least cloud or completely destroy your
candles.
Lets get started
Remove the wicks, jars and sticky tabs from the kit. Take a wick and
place a sticky tab on the bottom of each wick. Now take the wick and place
it into the jar as close to center as you can place it. Press down on the
metal wick tab to be sure the wick doesn’t move.
Choosing which candle to do first
Choose which candle you want to start off with. Take the embeds for
your candle and lay them out until you are ready to place them. You will also
want to make sure that the color of that candle and the scent of your choice
are laid out and ready to go.
Lets pour
Remove the large cup of gel from the oven and pour 7 ounces into your
smaller measuring cup. Now here is the trick, you will want to add your
color and scent fairly quick because the gel will start to setup rather
quickly. Add the scent as you stir until you reach the desired amount of
scent. Be sure to stir the scent in thoroughly and add color to the desired
color. Use a knife to shave off a small piece of the dye, it takes a very
small amount. When you have it mixed well enough pour the gel into the candle
container. If the wick should move just take your skewer and push back to
center.
Finishing up
Slowly take the embeds and add them one at a time all the way around
the jar. You may have to fill in the top part of the jar to fill in the
sides, and add a couple in the middle around the wick to give the appearance
of being full.. Cut the wick back so that only about one fourth of the wick is
sticking out of the gel.
Congratulations
That is all there is to it, you have made the first of your candles. Set it
aside to cool and set up.. For the remaining candles just follow these same
instructions again. When your all done sit back and enjoy the Fruits of your
labor.
